Dr. Jeffry Voas, Senior Past President of the Reliability Society, and Professor W. Eric Wong, Secretary of the Reliability Society, were invited speakers among others for ICRMS 2014 − the 10th International Conference on Reliability, Maintainability and Safety, held in Guangzhou, China from August 6 to 8. This is the largest international conference on reliability, maintainability and safety (RMS) in the Asia-Pacific region. The chair of the 2014 conference was Professor Way Kuo, President of the City University of Hong Kong and the Editor-in-Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Reliability.

At the conference, Dr. Voas gave a talk entitled Imagineering an Internet of Anything, while Professor Wong presented his most recent research on reducing the cost of program debugging via effective software fault localization. Both presentations received very positive feedback and generated interesting follow-up discussions.

Dr. Voas and Professor Wong also took the opportunity to organize a roundtable discussion to explain the procedure and requirements of establishing a new RS chapter and the benefits of becoming an RS member. The following pictures were taken at this meeting.

A very significant point worth noting is that we had participants from all five RS chapters in China (established or to-be-established): Beijing, Nanjing, Xi’an, Changsha, and Guangzhou, including the key personnel listed below:

  • Professor Wei Dong  (Vice Chair, RS Changsha Chapter/RS AdCom Member),
  • Professor Yunwei Dong (Chair, RS Xi'an Chapter)
  • Professor Shunong Zhang  (Secretary, RS Beijing Chapter)
  • Dr. Jingyu Wang (Secretary, RS Nanjing  Chapter)
  • Dr. Xuedong Kong, Dr. Chunhui Yang, Dr. Michael Jiang, and Dr. Xuan Hu from Guangzhou

The Reliability Society would like to give special thanks to local hosts China Electronic Product Reliability and Environmental Testing Research Institute (CEPREI), VTRON Technologies, and Guangzhou University for their hospitality and all the local arrangements.
