Review of Events: IEEE Reliability Society PHM Conference, Austin, TXJoe Childs, PE Conference Chairman, Pradeep Lall, led the preparations and implementation of the Prognostics and Health Management Conference in Austin in late June of this year. The conference was held on the Campus of the University of Texas in Austin, TX. The conference facilitated exchanges of ideas and practices, as well as a relaxed, social atmosphere that encouraged networking, forging new relationships, and deepening existing ones. The first day of the conference provided tutorials that included PHM in machinery, vibration, gearboxes, bearings, gas turbines, power systems, and fighter aircraft. Physics of failure, and Big Data were also presented in this session. There were three tracks that covered a wide variety of PHM-related applications, methods, and theory. We also were challenged and fascinated by outstanding keynotes from Mr. Steven Betza of Lockheed Martin who spoke about Collaborative Engineering and Mr. Chris Stecki, CEO of PHM Technology, Inc. (PHMT). Mr. Stecki's presentation was entitled “PHM in the Product Lifecycle—What's Next.” As a break from the sessions, the group also attended a relaxing cruise/dinner on Austin’s Lake Travis with the sun setting on the Austin skyline as a backdrop.
