Key members of the to-be-established Guangzhou and Wuhan RS Chapters had a meeting on December 2nd and 3rd in Guangzhou, China to discuss the logistics and requirements of establishing an RS chapter and to explore collaboration on projects of mutual interest to promote reliability in China.

The meeting was hosted by the Fifth Electronics Research Institute of Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, also known as China Electronic Product Reliability and Environmental Testing Research Institute (China CEPREI Laboratory). Established in 1955, CEPREI was the first scientific research organization to engage in product quality and reliability research in China.

Professor Christian Hansen (President of RS) and Dr. Jeffrey Voas (past President of the Society and former Director of IEEE Division VI) had also previously visited Guangzhou and met with leaders at CEPREI in December 2013 and August 2014, respectively. For the February 2016 meeting, in addition to Dr. Chunhui Yang (Director of the Software Quality Engineering Research Center), Dr. Dong Li (Chief Engineer of the Software Quality Engineering Research Center), and managers and engineers from CEPREI, other attendees included Professor Shengwu Xiong (Dean of the School of Computer Science and Technology at Wuhan University of Technology), Professor Jianwen Xiang (Wuhan University of Technology), Professor Jian Zhang (Chinese Academy of Sciences), and Professor Eric Wong (Vice President for Publications of RS).

A three-hour tutorial by Professor Eric Wong on software testing and quality assurance was also organized and sponsored by CEPREI and Guangzhou Tianhe Software Park on February 3, 2016.
