IEEE Standards Board Approves the First Revision to P1633 (RS/SC) IEEE Draft Recommended Practice on Software Reliability

Lou Gullo
IEEE RS Standards Committee Chair
9/30/2016

Congratulations to Ms. Ann Marie Neufelder and the members of the Software Reliability Standard Working Group. Ann Marie is the chair of the working group, which she led over the last 3 years to achieve the successful revision of the Recommended Practice on Software Reliability, IEEE Std-1633. Ann Marie worked tirelessly on organizing, writing, reviewing and editing the draft, as well as coordinating the working group meetings, writing assignments, reviewer/editor assignments, forming a ballot pool, conducting the ballot process, and adjudicating comments from the ballot pool and the Review Committee (RevCom) of the IEEE Standards Board. Ann Marie was able to deliver a finished draft to the IEEE Standards Board one year ahead of schedule. She should be highly commended for a new standard development assignment that was very well executed. P1633 was approved as a revised standard by the IEEE-SA Standards Board on 22 September 2016. The notification was sent the following day by Karen M. Evangelista, IEEE-SA Governance, Program Manager, from the IEEE Standards Activities Department. IEEE Std-1633 was originally published in 2008. The P1633 draft revision is the first time this document had been updated in 8 years. This approved IEEE standard will remain active for ten years. If the IEEE RS does not complete the revision request process using a Project Authorization Request (PAR) within ten years, the standard will be transferred to inactive status.
