Obituary for Dr. W. Thomas Weir

Dr. W. Thomas Weir, 84 of Ocean City, NJ passed away Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at The Bridges of Wesley Manor in Ocean City, NJ.

Born in 1931 in Wildwood, NJ, he later moved with his family to Philadelphia PA, where he obtained a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and an M.S. in Physics from Drexel University, and a PhD in Reliability and Statistical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania. Formerly a resident of Cherry Hill, NJ, he spent most of his life enjoying the summer months in Ocean City, NJ prior to moving here permanently twenty years ago.

Dr. Weir began his career as an engineer at RCA in Camden, NJ and later worked for General Electric’s Defense Division prior to starting his own company, Evaluation Associates, Inc., in Bala Cynwd, PA. During that time and for over 50 years, he taught Physics in the evening at Drexel University as an Adjunct Professor. Weir also worked for PSE & G at the Nuclear Power Plant in Salem, NJ prior to retirement.

During the Nixon Administration, Dr. Weir was appointed to a special U.S. Scientific Delegation and enjoyed extensive traveling and lecturing throughout the Peoples’ Republic of China.

Surviving him are two children, William T. Weir III of Jersey City NJ and James C. Weir and his wife Meagan of Hamilton VA; two brothers, Kendall Weir of Cherry Hill, NJ and Mark Weir of Hatboro, PA; four grandchildren, Blair, Meredith, Domino and Quinn. He was predeceased by his wife Sarah McGowan Weir and by two children, Blair S. Weir and Timothy A. Weir. His Funeral Service and internment will be private at the convenience of the family.
