President's Message

Dear Reliability Society Members,

I hope this message finds each of you well.

Over the past few years, our society and community have been through some challenging times due to the global COVID-19 pandemic. But the resilience of the Reliability Society has brought up many good outcomes, and we are now all adapting to the new norm and starting our normal business.

Please allow me to share and highlight a few pieces of progress since I took the office. This is by no means an exhaustive list.

  1. Reliability Society joined the IEEE Learning Network (ILN) and launched six lecture videos presented by domain knowledge experts. This new offering is free to the society membership and we will continue this path to build a knowledge base in the field of interest of our society.

  2. The society secured a new Editor-in-Chief Prof. Shiuhpyng Shieh for our flagship journal of IEEE Transactions on Reliability. I look forward to the continued growth of the journal under the new leadership and editorial team. I would also thank the outgoing EiC Prof. Eric Wong for his efforts and commitment over the past six years. Prof. Wong has raised the journal to a new level of quality and recognition.

  3. Thanks to the leadership of our Past Senior President Jeff Voas and VP for Conference and Meeting Christian Hansen, Reliability Society is now owning 50% finance of the IEEE Annual Software Technology Conference. The 29th IEEE Software Technology Conference was successfully virtually held on October 3 to 6, 2022, see more details about the conference here at http://ieee-stc.org.

  4. I am very pleased to announce that Reliability Society joined the IEEE multi-society membership program. This is an outcome of many years of discussions and debate and it was approved by TAB in Feb. 2022. I believe this collaboration will benefit our membership growth.

  5. In early 2022, Reliability Society joined the IEEE Transportation Electrification Community (TEC), which is in the process to form an IEEE council in the coming years. We are also bringing the TEC community to our flagship PHM conference for further collaboration.

  6. Last but not least, over the past few years, Reliability Society has built up a solid financial base, with doubled reserve and over 500k annual operations surplus. We will take advantage of the financial strength to work on new initiatives.
In closing, I appreciate all the hard work and resilience from our leadership team, and look forward to hearing feedback from you and having a fruitful year in 2022!

Best Wishes,

Steven Li
