President's Message

Dear Esteemed Reliability Society Members,

I hope this message finds each of you well. As we reflect on the challenges and triumphs of 2023, I am pleased to report that RS has maintained its resilience and momentum, achieving significant progress throughout the year.

  1. The first and most exciting news is our upcoming new IEEE Reliability Magazine, which is ready to launch in the first quarter of 2024. Reliability Magazine will be our society's first magazine publication and will definitely be a new platform for the reliability community to share research and practice advancement across the globe.

  2. In 2023, I formed an Ad Hoc committee working on a new IEEE publication called IEEE Journal of Intelligent and Reliability Asset Management (IRAM). This proposed new journal is a natural establishment based on our long-term IEEE Prognostics and Health Management conference, which started in early 2000. The new publication will welcome submissions in the intersection of AI/ML applications for intelligent and reliable asset management in a variety of technological domains such as Cyber Physical Systems, Energy Systems, Transportation Infrastructure, Petroleum, and Oil Industry, etc.

  3. To foster and enhance RS membership values, we have recognized and awarded our members for their outstanding contributions through a diverse spectrum of awards, including the Lifetime Achievement Award, Outstanding Services Awards (new), Engineer of the Year Award, Education Award, Company Recognition Award, and Student Achievement Award. I am also very pleased to inform you that we have one RS member elevated to the IEEE Fellow grade, the highest level being an IEEE member. All these efforts have brought to fruition our membership exceeding 3,000 for the first time in many years.

  4. We remain very strong in other technical activities such as conference and publication portfolios. In 2024, we will join the new IEEE Transportation Electrification Council after many years' sponsorship and engagement with the IEEE Transportation Electrification Community (TEC). We are also continuing our support to a few IEEE level initiatives such as the Future Network Technical Community, IoT Technical Community, Block Chain Initiative, Digital Reality, Smart Lighting, etc. I am confident all these endeavors and investments will return with promising future products and make us financially stronger in the coming years.
In closing, I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the dedicated volunteers and leadership team of the society. Together, let us embrace the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead in 2024. Wishing you all a peaceful, healthy, and prosperous new year.

Best Wishes,

Steven Li, PhD
