RS Outreach in Beijing and Harbin, China
Professor Eric Wong (Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Reliability and Member of RS AdCom) and Professor Steven Li (Member of RS AdCom) visited the National Research Center of Railway Safety Assessment at Beijing Jiaotong University from January 4 to 7, 2017. This is part of the RS outreach to faculty and students who are doing research in the area of reliability. In addition to explaining the benefits of becoming an RS member, Professor Wong also gave a lecture entitled “Combinatorial Testing and Its Applications” based on his ongoing collaboration with the CEPREI Research Laboratory in China. Two real-life applications were discussed: a subway control system and a Kylin Linux system
From January 9 to 12, Professor Wong and Professor Li visited Harbin Engineering University and Harbin University of Science and Technology. A planning meeting was organized to explore the possibility of establishing an RS Chapter in Harbin, China. Attendees included school administrators and faculty from the two universities above and Secretary of the IEEE Harbin Section. The outcome is very positive and preparation to file a chapter application is currently underway. Both professors also gave seminars on their ongoing research during their visit.
We would like to thank Professor Yun Lin and Professor Dawei Pan at Harbin Engineering University, Professor Guanglu Sun (also Deputy Dean of College of Computer Science and Technology) at Harbin University of Science and Technology for their support to make this visit very successful. Special thanks also go to Professor Guohui Yang at Harbin Institute of Technology who also serves as the Secretary of the IEEE Harbin Section. |
