RS Outreach at ISSSR 2018

W. Eric Wong
Editor-in-Chief
IEEE Transactions on Reliability

The 4th International Symposium on System and Software Reliability (ISSSR 2018) was held in Chengdu at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China on June 21 and 22. This symposium provides scientists and engineers from both industry and academia a platform to present their ongoing work, relate their research outcomes and experiences, and discuss the best and most efficient techniques for the development of reliable, secure, and trustworthy systems. It also represents an excellent opportunity for the academic community to become more aware of subject areas critical to the software industry as practitioners bring their needs to the table.

This conference is an excellent example of how a local chapter (Chengdu chapter in this case), with the help from the society, could organize an event at the international level. To show support, Dr. Jeff Voas, the society’s president, attended the symposium and gave a keynote speech. Professor Christian Hansen, senior past president of the society, also attended a previous symposium and gave a keynote address as well.

There was also a chapter meeting with representatives from all five RS chapters in China (Beijing, Nanjing, Xi’an, Changsha, and Chengdu) on June 21. This gave them an opportunity to exchange experiences and ideas of how to operate their chapters more effectively and provide more benefits to their members.

We would like to give special acknowledgement and thanks to Professor Yunshun Dai (Chair of RS Chengdu Chapter), as well as Professor Liang Luo and Professor Peng Sun (members of RS Chengdu Chapter), and students from their groups for all their support. All these volunteers are from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.
